Worries of a Soon-to-be-Mom

Gestational Diabetes- that’s what my OB has been suspecting that might have two weeks ago when I had my check up. I’m guessing it was the mangoes, juice, and white rice and I thought the amount I was eating was just enough to satisfy my craving. But it seems not- though my endo was not really worried about it because my blood sugar and urine tests show normal results, my OB still insists I might have one. I was even thinking my OB is just over-acting on the situation and even still asked me to see the in-house endo in the hospital where I will give birth. It worries me a lot though – I see my daughter getting bigger everyday. I feel very normal though – I am not a big preggo mom. But with that suspicion, I needed to prick my finger three times a day for two weeks to check my blood sugar. All of these foods are very tempting but I’m doing this for my daughter. With that saying and to tone down the stress level, I’m avoiding hearing negative vibes around me- that I need to do this a...

All for Her

Thirty One weeks and we are almost there. I am still not sure if I’m already well-prepared for the delivery. We only have a few weeks to get stuff for our daughter but it seems to be not easy to look for time to do that. Lester and I have a whole day (at least 12 hours awake) at work and school (for my husband) and by the end of the week, all we want to do is rest at home. We’re going through a lot of big decisions lately and believe us, it’s emotionally and financially exhausting. Decisions that we need to consider our little child as well. It was different when we were just two. All decisions were easy, and it was just ourselves that we take responsibility. But I realize, it’s a journey and a hurdle that couples go through and as parents, we should be able to handle this well. And decisions we will make shall always be for our daughter. Anyway, you’re probably wondering, what’s that decision we need to make? It’s about breastfeeding! For almost all moms, it’s a no-brainer, we ...

It's a Girl!

Finally after 30 weeks, Lester and I are happy to announce that we are having a baby GIRL! It took that long because we’re the kind of couple who’s obedient to the OB- have ultrasound when needed. Last time we checked, the OB did not confirm Little Javier’s gender though she told us that this little one is most likely a baby girl. Lester was still positive to have a baby boy- he still has 40-30% chance. But hey, it doesn’t matter- after all, we can still make another one :).  It must be the genes- my mom gave birth to 5 children- 4 of us are girls and our youngest is a boy (can you just imagine how Little C feels when he’s at home?). Lester was already dreaming of playing with his little one, teaching how to play PS, bike and all those boy stuff while I was already imagining cooking, baking and doing girly stuff with our little Javier- and I won! I remember when I was still on my first and second trimester, I was so into little things for girls that when I go to the mall’...

Cooking Fever: Rice, etc

I always make sure my husband has breakfast as his baon because he leaves early in the morning to avoid traffic. My schedule at work provides me ample time to cook our food. I’m sure just like me, moms out there spend a lot of time thinking of meals/baon for their husbands every single day. I’d like to share some of my ideas for office baon for your husbands. When we say breakfast for work, it’s not enough that we eat bread. We, Filipinos, love rice and it’s a jumpstart (aside from coffee) of our day. So here are rice recipes I provided for my husband. 1. Yangchow Rice- Mix of left over rice, frozen mixed veggies (those you can buy from supermarket), ham and eggs 2. Famous Garlic Rice (with Garlic Longganisa) – Left over rice and toasted garlic, egg is optional. For the the one with garlic longganisa, use the oil after cooking the longganisa. 3. Adobo Rice – Left over rice and adobo sauce with fried adobo meat and potatoes 4. Bagoong Rice – Binagoongan Sauce...

Wedding Flashback

My husband and I just came home from vacation in Macau and Hong Kong. But before I share our experience from the “babymoon-anniversary-father’s day” vacation, I’d like to share our flashback photos during our wedding. It was a simple gathering that our main objectives were simply to bless our marriage, gather our friends and families and enjoy the food. Small program was created and of course, the usual SDE’s by our photographer and videographer were also presented. It’s been a year since Lester and I have been living together as husband and wife, less than a year since we transferred to our own house and almost 7 months since we’ve been taking good care of this little Javier. We have discovered a lot of things about each other, accepted our differences and thanked the best things about our partner. And all of these things we went through for the past year of marriage we offer to the Lord, our God. He has showered us a lot of blessings- our wedding, this home and this chil...

Little Big Thing: NiQua

Although I’m on my way through a next chapter in my life, I still do not leave my first love behind – bags :). I used to go online to do my homework about bags and always end up settling with those super-branded ones which are very expensive. I normally do this when I have an upcoming trip (especially going to HK) to add to my collection. But last year, I came across this local brand called Ni Qua and never had second thoughts of buying this brand. Admittedly, my first time to buy a local brand, I find this simple but very elegant, best for office use or even just going to the malls. I’m not really used to buying online stuff especially when it comes to bags- I have to feel it first before I buy it! So when I learned that this Ni Qua was having a small kiosk in Century Mall last year (yup, my another long over-due blog!!!), I immediately dragged Lester (thanks to my husband for allowing us to skip a Pacquiao fight for this) so I can see the bags personally. Made of good quality le...

Little Big Things: Baby Needs

Little Javier is halfway on its journey to see the world. Just like preparing for a wedding and moving to a new house, baby preps are just as exciting. I’ve been doing my research lately and my husband and I never get tired of window shopping for baby needs. Here are my top picks that I can’t wait to get for my little one: 1. Breast Pumps Breast milk is still best for babies. Being the eldest, I’ve learned how to feed my siblings while they were young except of course, breast milking them. As far as I can remember, they were (or we were) Promil kids and I was very used to mixing the formula powdered milk and water. But nowadays, breast feeding is very well-promoted. Even hospitals do not allow formula milks for new-born babies. I’m setting aside an amount to invest for breast pumps (and the accessories). After all, you’ll be saving a lot for formula milks. Planning to get myself a manual pump first – just to check and then later on, get an electric one. I’m a workin...
