Cooking Fever: Rice, etc

I always make sure my husband has breakfast as his baon because he leaves early in the morning to avoid traffic. My schedule at work provides me ample time to cook our food. I’m sure just like me, moms out there spend a lot of time thinking of meals/baon for their husbands every single day. I’d like to share some of my ideas for office baon for your husbands.

When we say breakfast for work, it’s not enough that we eat bread. We, Filipinos, love rice and it’s a jumpstart (aside from coffee) of our day. So here are rice recipes I provided for my husband.

1. Yangchow Rice- Mix of left over rice, frozen mixed veggies (those you can buy from supermarket), ham and eggs

2. Famous Garlic Rice (with Garlic Longganisa) – Left over rice and toasted garlic, egg is optional. For the the one with garlic longganisa, use the oil after cooking the longganisa.

3. Adobo Rice – Left over rice and adobo sauce with fried adobo meat and potatoes

4. Bagoong Rice – Binagoongan Sauce and rice topped with Binagoongang meat and eggplant

5. Corned Pork Rice– La Filipina corned pork (because Lester doesn’t eat beef) and Rice with Mushroom, Red Bell Peppers, White Onions and Cheese Omelette

Worries of a Soon-to-be-Mom

Gestational Diabetes- that’s what my OB has been suspecting that might have two weeks ago when I had my check up. I’m guessing it was the mangoes, juice, and white rice and I thought the amount I was eating was just enough to satisfy my craving. But it seems not- though my endo was not really worried about it because my blood sugar and urine tests show normal results, my OB still insists I might have one. I was even thinking my OB is just over-acting on the situation and even still asked me to see the in-house endo in the hospital where I will give birth. It worries me a lot though – I see my daughter getting bigger everyday. I feel very normal though – I am not a big preggo mom. But with that suspicion, I needed to prick my finger three times a day for two weeks to check my blood sugar. All of these foods are very tempting but I’m doing this for my daughter. With that saying and to tone down the stress level, I’m avoiding hearing negative vibes around me- that I need to do this a...

First Plane Ride

Do you remember the first time you rode the plane? Nowadays, it’s very easy for kids to experience their first plane ride as fares are cheaper. Thanks to budget airlines that once had a vision that every person can ride a plane once in their lives. I took my first plane ride when I was 5 years old. Lucky to experience that young, I was with my mom and my sister when all of us rode the plane for the first time to travel. I had no idea what was this travel is all about, even did not have any knowledge where we’re going. All I knew was that, we’re riding the plane and we were going somewhere far where my dad studied his Master’s degree. Not all kids, during that time, had that chance. And definitely, not all kids had the chance to travel to Europe so I am most thankful to my lola (who’s in US) who gave us this opportunity. Here’s my picture back then. We had a stopover in Hongkong Airport and this innocent kid asked her mom why we were getting down the plane. My mom answered...

Cooking Fever: Gising-Gising

I cooked this once for my husband to satisfy his spicy taste. I first tried this in Recipes and found it yummy. :) Ingredients: Garlic, chopped Onions (Red), chopped Baguio beans, chopped into pieces Ground Pork Red Chili Pepper, chopped Green Chili Peppers (Siling haba) Coconut milk Salt, pepper and soy sauce to taste 1. Saute onions and garlic. Add the ground pork. 2. Add a little bit of soy sauce to taste.     3. Once the pork is cooked, add Coconut Milk. For this recipe, I used the instant ones (just add water!) but I think it'll taste better if you use those you can buy from the market.  4. Add Baguio beans (not string beans!) and all the chilis - depending on your taste. I used less red ones but separated my share because I'm not really into spicy food (except sisig!) 5. Put salt and pepper to taste 6. Serve This is my first blog to write about recipes so please pardon my instructions. I really do not know...
